Loaves and Fishes
During the summer of 2016, Laura Avery and I were sharing a pool day and some sunshine. Over snacks, we discovered we both wanted ‘more community in our community’. We realized we had gifts of hospitality and were willing to share these in our homes. We also wanted to experience intentional inter-generational fellowship over ‘breaking bread’ together. This gave birth to our version of, “Loaves and Fishes: Making New Friends One Delicious Meal at a Time’. Our launch was November, 2016.
The concept is simple; 1) two hostesses (and husbands) 2) who invite four more to make dinner for eight 3) on an agreed upon date 4) sharing amazing food, fun and fellowship 5) Repeat and repeat to make an impact in our community 6) No ending—the goal is to actively multiply by presenting mission and vision with those who come to dinner!
Over the past year we ha, e hosted six dinners and have made over 35 new friends. We take turns hosting at each other’s homes. At dinner we not only share a great meal, and play a game, but we also use a guestbook and a ‘loaves and fishes’ pottery piece to generate interest and multiply this ministry.
We pray that as we share dinner and present our vision, God will raise up others who will want to join in the fun. In fact, we have great news to share! We have two new groups in the works! One is with friends in Connecticut. Our second group is right here at home; Jo Comden and Jan Garn are tooling up to start SAFM Chapter #2 by the end of 2017.
We have three more sets of guest books and pottery just waiting to be claimed! We want More Community in Our Community.
