Make Me a Blessing

I woke up with a prayer in my heart. “Jesus, make me a blessing to someone who needs a touch from You this day.”

Give as ‘twas given to you in your need;
Love as the Master loved you;
Be to the helpless a helper indeed;
Unto your mission be true.

The morning rushed by as I headed into town for shopping, and my morning prayer was buried under the “to do” lists. Eventually, I ended up at Sam’s Club. As I headed down the first aisle, I caught a glimpse of a woman in a motorized cart. As I drew nearer, I saw a 24-box collection of Kleenex tissues slide off her lap and onto the floor. When I approached, I asked if I could help. She appreciated the offer and said that she wanted to do some price comparisons of the various brands. I helped her look at the options and in a very short time, she made her selection. I tucked the bulky container in the cart in a place where it could not topple over.

As I moved back to my cart she said, “Thank you for helping me. I recently had knee-replacement surgery, and this morning I prayed that someone would assist me as I shopped today.” Just like that, my morning prayer came to mind, and I shared that with her.

Here we were two strangers having a hallelujah moment in the Sam’s Club aisle, rejoicing over a God who hears and answers prayer in the most “unsurprising” ways.
