Serving Up

It was a cool summer day - perfect for kids playing kickball, yet warm enough to sit and enjoy conversations. The food was yummy and it was great to see long-time attendees mingling with newcomers at the Church Picnic.

An event like this always has a “behind-the-scenes” team. This one was headed up by Pastor Brad Wilcox and volunteer kitchen director, Sue Sloan, Sue jumped head first into the kitchen ministry last year by acquiring her ServSave certification and will organize teams for serving at Gear Up and the Church Picnic. She keeps our kitchens up to snuff, and reminds us that it’s ministry, “That’s what it’s all about!”

Sue says, “I believe God has placed a passion in my heart to serve Him by serving others. Each event, no matter how large, how small, how complicated, or how simple is our gift to God. My dream for the Kitchen Ministry is to assist in providing a pleasant atmosphere and environment where people (starting with teens) will enjoy serving others through food ministry. I’m always hopeful during an event that God will ignite a passion in volunteers to serve. I receive great pleasure not only by feeding people but also by teaching and leading others in the kitchen through planning, cooking, and serving. There are many avenues for volunteers to serve in this ministry:  planning, setting up, cleaning up, prepping food, cooking, and serving. We want servants with experience in event planning and kitchen experience, and people willing to learn.”

Sue is already getting a team ready for our annual fall outreach pulled-pork picnic: Gear Up, September 10.  If you are interested in helping please let us know at safmc.me/gearup17.
