God Comes to Us in Our Waiting
Mary’s story is one of waiting. The whole world is collapsing around her, and she must wait at every turn. She waits for her life-long dream of marriage and family. She waits for a baby to develop in her womb. She waits for Joseph’s decision whether to divorce her or not. She waits for a place in Bethlehem to deliver her baby. In exile, in Egypt, she waits for the Lord’s signal that it’s safe to return. She waits through Jesus’ public ministry, watching as His popularity wanes, and danger looms. Mary waits during the long night of Jesus’ trial and suffering, then waits at the foot of the cross. Mary’s life is a powerful example for us.
