Our Citizenship is in Heaven
Paul distinguishes the followers of Christ from the world in Philippians 3:17-21. With a broken heart (“I say again, even with tears”), he tells of how so many live as enemies of the cross. He grieves over the affront to the Lord that he loves, but he also grieves over their pending destruction (“their destiny is destruction”). The contrast here is striking. While “their mind is on earthly things”, our citizenship is in heaven, meaning, our loose attachment to this world is temporary. We eagerly await a Savior from there, Jesus. And by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, He will transform our lowly bodies to become like his glorious body.
