Power to Be Clean

The Spirit convinces us of Christ, then assures us of God’s pardon and our adoption as His children. The Spirit cleanses us from not only the guilt of sin but also the power of sin—the debilitating residue of our self-centered lives of fear. Often people talk about how we can be free from the consequences of sin, but we can also be free from the sin that brings those consequences. This cleansing is the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. To be sanctified is to be set apart for God’s special purpose. If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with each other and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin. (I John 1:7)
