Power to Serve
The Holy Spirit enables us to do the work of God in the world. Jesus
ascended on high and led captives in his train and gave gifts to men ... It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers—to prepare God’s people for works of service, that the body of Christ may be built up and that we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of God.
We are not saved to be blessed, but we are saved to bless the world. We are saved for God’s purposes, for His enterprise. The Holy Spirit is given to us in order that we might be witnesses to the world. It is the Spirit of Jesus that makes us like Jesus. We are no more like Jesus than when we serve.
