The Great Conflict

The Advent season focuses on Christ’s coming into the world. It covers the full extent and implications of His coming - including His promised coming again to bring His Kingdom of righteousness and peace. In a world that seems to be convulsing with terror, uncertainty, and natural calamity, it is timely that we center on the hope we have in Jesus.

Jesus walked through Jerusalem with his disciples and told them what was to come. He spoke of the imminent destruction of Jerusalem as well as the end, after the gospel is preached to all nations. What are we to make of this? The gospel does not allow us to settle for a pedestrian faith.  Jesus’ coming divides the world, and, as Martin Luther King described the civil rights movement in his letter from a Birmingham jail, Jesus creates a crisis which demands a response.  That crisis is looming and has yet to reach full bloom.
